The Vampire Diaries season 7 has started using flash-forwards, and in them we see a mysterious vampire hunter going after Stefan, Damon and Caroline.
One of our favorite things about The Vampire Diaries is the sheer amount of crack theories we can come up with based on the smallest of things. Today we have our own crack theory for you: We think this mysterious woman is none other than Jo Laughlin, Alaric’s dead wife.
These past few episodes Alaric has been absolutely obsessed with bringing back his wife from the dead, and while that’s a little creepy, it’s not why we’re concerned. We’re pretty sure the phoenix stone, which Alaric plans on using to do the job, is the reason why Jo comes back to life and is totally evil. The phoenix stone is said to be filled with a horrible evil, so it makes sense that if Alaric uses it to bring Jo back from the dead she, too, would be evil.
But enough with the conjecture; let’s show you the evidence. Here’s a shot of the mysterious woman going after Stefan and Damon in episode 1:
We don’t know about you, but that strong jawline we see in the second photo reminds us of Jo’s sharp jaw. Her stature seems to be just like Jo’s in previous seasons, and we just can’t shake the feeling that this is definitely Jo Laughlin.
Don’t think this shadowed woman is really Jo? That’s fine, we can see your point there. However, the next bit of evidence surely points all signs to her being the mysterious hunter.
When Stefan went to wake up Damon in Brooklyn three years from now because the hunter was after him, he said his scar opened up, and he didn’t realize that she was so close. Here’s a picture of the scar that opened once the Hunter was back:
Based on what Stefan said, we’re positive this is some sort of magical scar that opens whenever the person who caused it comes near the victim again — or something like that.
Why do we think that this scar has anything to do with Jo? Well that’s because of the phoenix stone! In the second episode Bonnie sensed the stone had an evil presence within it, and when she tried to read the stone using her magic powers to see who may have created it, she had visions of people dying, blood everywhere, and more importantly, these scars being carved into them. Here’s a screenshot of the scar in Bonnie’s vision when she touched the phoenix stone.
Look familiar? These two scars are exactly the same, and this scar combined with the shadow’s figure looking a lot like Jo lead us to the theory that Alaric is going to use the phoenix stone successfully to bring her back from the dead.
However, as we all know, when you bring someone back from the dead they’re never the same person they used to be. We’re absolutely convinced that the stone is holding an evil spirit of a witchy vampire hunter and if Alaric uses that stone on Jo, then their spirit will be transferred to her body, which is why Jo would be attacking the vampires in Mystic Falls three years from now.
But you never know with The Vampire Diaries! Maybe this theory is right on the dot or maybe we’re so off course that Julie Plec is reading this laughing to herself. Either way we’re so intrigued by the way the show has used these flash-forwards and look forward to seeing if our theory is right.
