The Vampire Diaries season 6, episode 6 “The More You Ignore Me, the Closer I Get” brought things to a whole new level, leaving Elena without options and Alaric in a situation we don’t understand.
Trip’s Torture
The episode begins with Ivy’s death, along with two other random vampires. As Trip makes his way through the border each vampire (one by one) dies the same death that first turned them into a vampire.
Matt, who’s been helping Trip keep Enzo behind bars, finally tells the group about Enzo’s whereabouts. Why? Because now Trip wants to know who Enzo has been friends with: Basically all of Matt’s closest friends. He goes to Caroline and Alaric and together they work on a plan to get Enzo out. Stefan and Caroline get to the compound where Enzo was but unfortunately for them he’s not there.
When they find out Trip took Damon, Alaric, Stefan, Caroline and Elena head to each of the roads that go in and out of Mystic Falls and block them using their cars to stop Trip from entering the town. Trip, unfortunately, has both Enzo and Damon in the back of his car.
In their attempt to stop Trip from crossing the border they end up getting into a car accident, with Trip’s car turning over and rolling into the boundaries of the town. Neither of the men end up dying instantly, but their original wounds that turned them into vampires appear and they start bleeding out. Stefan thankfully saves them both before they die.
A Love Forgotten
When hearing the news that Damon is back, Elena’s first reaction is that she most definitely does not want to see Damon. Alaric tries to talk her into letting him compel her memories back, but she won’t go for it. Damon doesn’t exactly take this well, obviously.
However, Damon believes he can truly fix things if he just sees Elena again. Maybe when they see each other their love will overpower the compulsion and they’ll be in love again – that is, if Elena would even open the door to let him in. Upon his first visit to her dorm room she doesn’t let him in, and when he does manage to open the door she’s jumped out the window to avoid him.
Damon goes to talk Alaric into uncompelling her, but he won’t go for it so Damon decides to try and wait for Elena in her dorm room. Unfortunately while he waits he gets abducted by Trip, who’s found out that Caroline is a vampire and went to her dorm to get her.
At the town border Elena decides that she wants her memories of Damon back, but unfortunately for her Alaric went over the border too long and is no longer a vampire. She’s stuck with her memories compelled away from her, so at the end of the episode she finally decides to see Damon face to face.
Witchy Medicine
At the hospital, Elena is trying to figure out why Jo can’t be compelled. She checks her coffee for vervain, tries to see if it’s in her jewelry, but in the end it’s Jo that fesses up. She knows that she and Alaric are vampires, and Elena figures out (or assumes, rather) that Jo is a witch, which is why she can’t be compelled.
Jo faces Alaric before he goes off to save Damon and Enzo, and then ends up running into them at the Mystic Falls border (because, as she said, she’s a stalker).
Alaric’s original fatal wounds are back and as he lays on the ground in the boundary of Mystic Falls Jo goes to save him. He tells her to move him over the border but she won’t, saying he’ll die if she does. Instead she manages to use her skills as a doctor to save Alaric from his wound, but not from the stripping of the magic.
At the hospital it’s revealed that while Alaric survived he’s no longer a vampire. Is it really as simple as that? We’ll have to wait until next week to find out.
Family Ties
Finally, at the end of the episode Sarah finally gets in on the secret that the Salvatore brothers are vampires and she needs to stay far away from them. Will she listen? Probably not.
