Nina Dobrev (Elena), Paul Wesley (Stefan) and Ian Somerhalder (Damon) were all interviewed at the CW Upfront event, and talk about their characters and what they think about where the show is headed next year.
The two videos are available to watch here at TV Guide.
Speaking about the Damon/Elena kiss, Nina Dobrev says:
It was a very beautiful, bittersweet moment that was very short-lived and interrupted by the queen bee […] the other me. But as much as she ruined the moment… Katherine saved the day, when you think about it. She did the first good selfless thing. She could have run away but she didn’t so kudos to Katherine.
When asked if she has a favourite episode, Dobrev says all the episodes kind of blend together for her, but at the moment she most enjoy filming the scenes as Katherine in the past:
What I like about an episode is the experience I had filming it, so I think about where I was and what I was thinking about, and how the scene was and how I felt in it, so period [drama scenes] are always a blast for me.
In the second video, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder joke that Stefan is going to be too drunk on blood to care that Elena kissed Damon: “I’m gonna be like, ‘Who? Elena who?’ And then I’m gonna be like, ‘Oh. Whatever.'”
And then I don’t know if it’s my computer or the video, but the audio slows way down and the image freezes. But one of the actors does say that he knows the show will go back to the “psychological, scary thriller” side of things, after having spent the last season so heavily wrapped up in the mythology storylines. […] That chapter’s closed, and now we can get into the nitty-gritty character work.” And what I believe is Paul Wesley talks about how happy he is that Stefan is doing something different, taking a darker turn this year.
