The CW’s The Selection pilot is being re-shot for the 2013 fall season with a brand new cast, and Yael Grobglas will now play lead character America Singer.
Last year, Kiera Cass’ YA fantasy novel The Selection was optioned for television, and a pilot project was launched. However, after reviewing the pilot The CW chose not to pick it up for the 2012 fall season and the project was put on hold.
Now, the script has undergone a massive overhaul, and The Selection pilot is being remade with different actors. Deadline can now report that the role of lead character America Singer will be played by Israeli actress Yael Grobglas, a newcomer to the U.S. film scene. Grobglas has previously starred in the Israeli series Tanuhi (Give It A Rest).
The Selection is set 300 years in the future, in a society where people are ranked based on employment category and where the monarchy is repeatedly threatened by rebel forces. America is one of 25 girls chosen to compete for the hand of the Prince – a position which couldn’t just win her a marriage, but also a crown.
We have previously reported that actor Sean William Thomas will be reprising his role as Sylvan Santos in the rebooted pilot. Deadline has further learned that Peta Sergeant will also be reprising her role, playing the rebel leader Gaia.
The original lead actress Aimee Teegarden, meanwhile, has been cast in a different The CW drama: Oxygen, a show about a teenage girl who falls in love with one of the aliens attending her local high school.
What do you think of Grobglas? Does she look like the America you imagined from reading the book?
