The Selection pilot has now found its three lead characters! British actor Lucien Laviscount joins the cast as America’s boyfriend Aspen.
Deadline has just announced that Lucien Laviscount, who is best known for his role on the British drama series Skins, has landed the coveted lead role in the rebooted The Selection pilot optioned by The CW.
Fans of The Selection novel by Kiera Cass will already know that Aspen Leger is the initial love interest of main character America Singer (played by Yael Grobglas) whom she leaves behind when she journeys to the castle to take part in a competition for the hand of Prince Maxon (Michael Malarkey).
However, several changes have been made to the planned CW adaptation series, and we’re thinking that one of them will probably be Aspen’s placement within the universe: considering he is a lead character, we can see him joining America and Maxon in the castle much sooner than he does in the book.
The Selection pilot had originally been created with an entirely different set of actors for the 2012 fall season, but The CW rejected the project. Now, the script has been reworked and most of the roles have been recast, including Aspen – he was originally going to be played by Narnia actor William Moseley.
However, some actors have been brought back for this revised pilot. One of them is Celia Massingham, whom Deadline reports will be reprising her role as Celeste, one of the competition’s most fierce competitors.
If this version of the pilot is picked up by The CW, The Selection will begin airing in the fall of 2013.
