If there’s one thing that The Originals has never shied away from, it’s the body swap. Take a look back at all the body swapping insanity the Mikaelsons have involved themselves in over 3 seasons.
Most of the Original siblings have taken a stroll in another person’s shoes. Literally. The only exception to this rule would be Elijah. He just really seems to be at home in his body. We are definitely grateful for his steadfastness because the rest of his siblings seem to hop around like it’s just another day at the office.
Before we start looking at all the body swapping craziness, we want to nod our head to the mistress of the body swap. Yes, we’re talking about Esther. She’s swapped consciousnesses so many times between her stints on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals that we can’t even begin to keep them all straight. Now, onto her children:
Klaus
Let’s start with Klaus. Klaus first hit the scene in The Vampire Diaries, but he did so in Alaric Saltzman’s body. We didn’t even see him in his Original form until he deemed himself too vulnerable in the human body any longer.
Klaus also possessed Tyler Lockwood’s body for a time. Alaric, reborn as an Originals vampire thanks to Esther, was on the hunt for the Mikaelson children with a White Oak Stake to put them down for good. Bonnie used a body swapping spell to keep Klaus alive so that his sire line, including Stefan, Damon, Tyler and Caroline, wouldn’t be extinguished forever.
Kol
Kol has done a bit of body swapping, but his has been mostly necessary, as his Original vampire form is no more thanks to Elena and Jeremy and that fateful night in the Gilbert family kitchen. We got quite attached to his second form, however, when he appeared as Kaleb Westphall last season. It was tragic to lose him so suddenly, but hopefully he isn’t gone for good as both Rebekah and Davina are on a righteous search for a way to restore him to the land of the living.
Finn
Finn took a turn on the body swapping wagon last season as well when Esther planted his soul in the body of young purveyor of magic, Vincent Griffith. He didn’t last long, but he managed to hex Kol/Kaleb before he went. His spirit is now trapped in Freya’s talisman, so there’s always a chance that Finn could pop up in another body sometime in the future.
Rebekah
Most recently, AKA this past week’s episode, Rebekah did a little swapping of her own. When Kol/Kaleb died last season, Rebekah chose to stay in the witch form of Eva Sinclair until she could restore him. That wish of hers died when Eva Sinclair’s throat was cut and Rebekah awakened in her original Mikaelson form. It would seem that Rebekah would appear as her Original self from here on out, but there’s always a body swapping spell when you need one. Who knows when the next opportunity to jump into another form could come along.
We also must note that Rebekah has also been the receptor of a strange soul. Esther took up residence in Rebekah’s body back in season 3 of The Vampire Diaries. Rebekah never really said much about the experience, but she’s the only soul on either show that has both possessed another body, and had her body possessed.
