The Originals season 2, episode 22 holds all the answers. The season 2 finale will tell us who wins in the battle of Mikaelsons vs. Dahlia, and we are more anxious than ever.
Dahlia plans to kill Freya when the moon is at its apex, and severing her link to Freya will firmly link her to Hope permanently.
Elijah and Cami are discussing Klaus’ awfully betrayal-like non-betrayal from earlier that night. Klaus had to get Dahlia to bind herself to him, giving him time to find the right ingredients for the weapon to kill Dahlia. Apparently, the ingredients Freya used were wrong.
Once Dahlia completes the link to Klaus, he uses the White Oak Ash dagger to put them both down.
Marcel is there when Rebekah sits up in her Original body. He is more than a little relieved to have her back. Rebekah takes her phone off of her replacement body, and sees that Klaus is calling.
Elijah is furious, but halts his tirade when Rebekah arrives in her old body. The furor soon returns as he refocuses on why he was angry in the first place: Hayley. Hayley isn’t answering her phone, and when Rebekah tells him Klaus re-enacted the Crescent curse, he loses it. She gets him to focus on the most important thing, Hope, when she tells him that Freya just called with her location. Elijah whooshes out.
Klaus’ plan is as follows: They need Esther’s blood to create the weapon to kill Dahlia, as she was the witch Dahlia loved the most. Since Esther’s original body is buried in New Orleans, Klaus wants to dig her up, burn her to ash, then replace Kol’s ashes with Esther’s and trick Davina into resurrecting Esther instead of Kol.
Elijah votes to dump the daggered into a deep hole, and Freya proposes using the White Oak Stake to take out both Klaus and Dahlia in one fell swoop. When Rebekah notices that the Klaus-dagger is melting, they go to dig up Mommy Dearest.
Marcel is on the hunt for Kol’s ashes, which Klaus has told him reside in a blue urn. Freya doesn’t believe that Klaus’ plan will work. One little witchy trick later, and Freya has found a hiding place in the mantel where the White Oak Stake is hiding in a secret compartment.
Davina is ready to start the resurrection spell, holding a glass urn of Kol’s ashes above the trough. Rebekah suddenly appears, and draws Davina out from the crypt. She tells Davina that they need her to use her powers as Regent to resurrect Esther. Davina gets a little steamed, calls Rebekah a liar, and snaps her neck.
Davina pours the ashes from the glass urn into her trough. Davina stops her chanting as the liquid in the trough hardens. Seconds later, a hand bursts through the solid surface. At the same time, Freya is seconds from driving the stake through Nik’s heart, killing him and his entire line, but also killing Dahlia, who is linked to him. Klaus reaches up and stops her just before she completes her task, and Esther sits up in the trough in front of Davina.
Davina is rightfully furious. Elijah appears to let her know he was the one that exchanged the ashes. Rebekah is quick to remind her that they will figure out a way to get Kol back, just not today. Elijah then slaps the manacles on Esther to keep her magic contained as he greets his mother.
Dahlia whips the White Oak Stake out and threatens Klaus. Apparently, she melted the dagger and dissolved the link between them right along with it. She then tries to pull Klaus’ body toward the stake, and Marcel dives to save him. Klaus immediately looks for Hope, and finds her in her crib upstairs, unharmed.
Vincent finds Davina in the crypt. She is beyond furious with anyone associated with the name Mikaelson. Marcel shows up and begs her to help him find Dahlia. She looks appalled at the request to help those that just stabbed her in the back, but he goes on to list that he, Josh, and everyone ever turned by Klaus is in danger.
Klaus is with Hope at the safehouse from a few episodes back. Cami agrees to guard Hope there until Klaus returns.
He then pops in to visit with Elijah and Esther. His plan continues to unfold. He has a blade he has had bound to soil from Dahlia’s homeland and Mikael’s viking ashes. Once that blade is introduced to Esther’s blood, it will be the weapon they will use to kill Dahlia. Klaus intends to use Esther for a little psychological warfare before the big slaughter. When Klaus calls Gia and Hayley collateral damage, and nothing more, Elijah slaps him hard across the face.
Elijah agrees to help with this adversary, but after this, Elijah will not stand by Klaus’ side any more. It seems Elijah has finally hit his limit.
Dahlia drags Freya to the old slaughtering grounds to kill her. Klaus, Rebekah, and Elijah walk Esther into Dahlia’s presence, and for the first time in a long time, Dahlia is speechless.
Dahlia laughs at what she thinks is a peace offering, and then produces the White Oak Stake as a threat. Klaus points out that even if she uses it against one of them, the other two will put her down before she can blink. She calls him out on his small thinking, points the stake to the sky, where it turns to ash that begins raining down from above. She then forces them all to take a deep breath of the White Oak Ash. They each begin coughing dramatically, dying.
Esther then addresses her sister, asking why she still harbors such resentment, and Dahlia answers by reminding her that she broke their “Always and Forever” pact by marrying Mikael and having their brood of children.
Esther makes her move. She wraps her chains around Dahlia’s neck, freeing Freya from her spell. Freya forces the ash to plume from the Mikaelson children’s mouths as she breaks the border of the protective circle. Esther calls for Elijah to bring the blade. Klaus picks it up and stabs Esther through with it, impaling her and killing Dahlia at the same time.
The sisters forgive each other as they both die in the other’s arms. The same morning, Marcel and Elijah say goodbye to their fallen brethren as they burn the corpses.
Klaus and Rebekah are present for a feast the following day, but Rebekah is only there to remind Klaus of what victory on his terms cost them.
Freya has prepared the witch body to be inhabited again. Rebekah may choose whether to remain a vampire or be a witch once again. Rebekah returns to the witch body, and searches out Marcel. She plans to use her magical abilities in that body to help Davina.
Klaus goes to see Cami, and they discuss the inevitability of their meeting. Just as Klaus is about to make a move on her, he turns and runs.
Elijah makes his way out to the bayou, and since it’s a full moon, Hayley comes out of the woods to talk. She makes him promise to be there for Hope. She needs to know that Klaus isn’t the only person her child is learning from (and who can blame her for wanting that).
Klaus rocks his child as he tells her his story. He ends it by reminding her that even when it seems like the end, there is always another chapter to tell.
