We’ve lost a lot of significant characters since the show began 36 episodes ago. We thought it would be nice to take a look back and remember some of our fallen favorites. (SPOILERS WITHIN)
Supernatural shows always tend to have a higher body count than your typical contemporary dramas, but it seems like The Originals has lost quite a few incredibly significant characters in its first 36 episodes. As we always seem to be teetering at the precipice of another bloody battle in the French Quarter, we thought it would be nice to take a look back at the characters we’ve lost.
The Fallen
Kaleb/Kol
Kol may not have been around for long in New Orleans, but his presence will be felt for long after they consecrate his remains. He made quite the impression on his siblings, and Davina Claire will not likely forget the impact Kol Mikaelson had on her life. Not to mention that dagger that he and Davina managed to create to put Klaus down. If only Finn/Vincent hadn’t been so eager to punish his brother for choosing the wrong side. We would have liked to have seen much more of the youngest Mikaelson boy than we did.
Thierry Vanchure
Marcel’s right hand man was a main player, right up until Marcel was forced to seal him in The Garden for 100 years for his treachery in killing a vampire to save his witch lady friend, Katie. Participating in a plot to make daylight rings for the nightwalkers (which Thierry had no knowledge of) was just the icing on cake. Marcel later realized that Thierry didn’t deserve to rot in The Garden, and freed him. We appreciated what Thierry brought to the table, but we wish we would have gotten a chance to know him better. Thierry was ultimately killed by Elijah as a message to Marcel to not interfere with the treaty.
Kieran O’Connell
Kieran was one hell of an uncle, and a good liaison between the human and supernatural communities until he crossed Bastianna and she hexed him like her ancestor, Agnes, did to his nephew. Camille did everything she could to save her uncle, but ultimately, he succumbed to the hex and passed. More than anything, we couldn’t help but feel badly for Cami, as she was forced to say goodbye to the last of her family.
Diego
Diego succeeded Thierry in being Marcel’s right hand man, and he was loyal and devoted to Marcel’s cause to the end. He was one of the many vampires that were killed by the Guerrera werewolves when they tried to stand with Marcel against the Originals to retake control of New Orleans. We might not have known Diego well, but every time he showed up, we knew he was a force to be reckoned with.
Oliver
Oliver started out his time on The Originals as an antagonist and a thorn in the Original siblings’ sides. Before we saw it coming, he overthrew Jackson for leadership of the werewolves, and had started turning them against him. In the end though, he fought to free his people from anyone else’s control. He was insistent that the wolves needed to stop allowing others to use them to kill their own people. He ultimately bled to death courtesy of the curse the witches put on him as punishment.
Francesca Guerrera
The leader of the Guerrera werewolves, Francesca died in the street at Hayley’s hand after trying to use the White Oak Stake against the Originals and gain sole control of the Quarter. When she wasn’t trying to manipulate all of our favorite characters, Francesca did some incredible things, and was a good leader to her people. We still aren’t huge fans though.
Sophie Deveraux
She was one of the first truly significant deaths, and we can’t help but feel like she was gone way before her time. Sophie Deveraux was the most relatable witch in season 1, and her death took us all by surprise. She had just had some serious success fighting Klaus by stabbing him with Papa Tunde’s knife when her own niece decided that she must die for not having enough faith and wanting to run from New Orleans rather than fight.
Genevieve
This witch was nothing but trouble for more than a few of our Originals, but Hayley was the one to end her life when she went one step too far. After leading the mental torture of Rebekah and Klaus in an abandoned mental hospital, she set her sights on killing baby Hope the minute she was born. We might not miss her very much for her goodness and light (yeah, right), but there was never a dull moment when she was pulling the strings.
Monique Deveraux
We barely got to know Monique outside of her being a Harvest girl and killing her aunt. She was more of an all around trouble maker more than anything else. She always seemed to be on the wrong side of things. Despite his absolute about not killing children, Marcel killed her with the Devil’s Star which caused her to bleed to death.
Papa Tunde
He was a worthy adversary, but the real magic was in his bone knife. That knife has returned again and again to wreak havoc and deal some truly painful blows. His dedication to his twin sons caused him to volunteer himself as a sacrifice to further empower the knife. His power now resides in the bone knife that was most recently used to help stop Finn/Vincent.
Timothy
It’t not easy being a human in New Orleans, and Davina’s friend Tim was proof positive of that. Despite being hurt in the church by Klaus, Timothy survived long enough to be poisoned by Klaus in an attempt to take Davina out of action. Marcel managed to save his favorite witch by forcing Celeste to protect her with a spell, but did not extend that protection to Timothy. We definitely felt badly for Davina as she followed her first boyfriend into death, only to reawaken to a world without him.
