During the Television Critic’s Association’s fall TV previews, two of HBO’s highest level executives gave a very generous nod to fans of The Newsroom, and hinted that we should be getting an official announcement soon about the show’s future.
Only two episodes into The Newsroom season 2, and fans of the show are already hearing rumors of a very possible season 3.
HBO’s CEO Richard Plepler and the President of Programming attended the Television Critic’s Association fall TV previews and amongst other HBO original programming news, had this to say about the future of The Newsroom after only 2 episodes of season 2 having aired: “The odds are excellent. We’re very happy with the show. Honestly the conversations with Aaron this point are all about schedule. I would be shocked if you weren’t hearing an announcement soon… We’re enormously happy with Newsroom.”
It is wonderful to hear that HBO has such faith in the talents of the cast and crew on The Newsroom, and that the ratings have met their expectations enough for them to be seriously considering season 3.
After seeing “First Thing We Do, Let’s Kill All the Lawyers” and “The Genoa Tip,” fans of The Newsroom have been encouraged by the obvious scrutiny with which Sorkin and company have structured season 2. Hopefully the story will continue to progress without a hitch as season 2 continues.
Next Sunday’s episode, “Willie Pete” sounds like it will bring intriguing twists to the story of The Newsroom season 2: “Will continues his mission to civilize by telling Nina Howard (Hope Davis) the truth. A new witness to the Genoa story emerges on Twitter, and in New Hampshire, Jim’s efforts to have his questions answered continue to fall on deaf ears.”
Also, don’t miss out on the preview for “Willie Pete”!
