The teaser poster for Disney’s The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, has landed online, with the new tagline, “Never take off the mask.”
The film has had a long, difficult production, including being temporarily shut down due to budgetary concerns. That said, the film is back on track as this teaser poster proves.
We’re unsure who is actually on the poster, as it could really be either Hammer or Depp. If you have some idea, let us know in the comments, because that seems to be an issue with the poster. Otherwise, it seems this will be the beginning of an intense marketing campaign as Disney tries to get back the hefty budget and avoid another John Carter-level failure.
Directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, Rango), The Lone Ranger first appeared on serialized radio in 1933, and has had several incarnations since then. As previously mentioned, production has had a tumultuous beginning, as Disney cut production costs from $250 million down to $200 million. Yes, film economics are often quite ridiculous.
In addition to Depp and Hammer in the lead roles, the film stars Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton), Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter), Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan), Ruth Wilson (Anna Karenina), and William Fichtner (The Dark Knight). The Lone Ranger is produced by mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer through his Jerry Bruckheimer Films banner.
The Lone Ranger is a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice — taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.
The Lone Ranger is set for a release on July 3, 2013.
