Las Vegas rock band, The Killers, have announced the release of a greatest hits album in November, with the addition of two new tracks including new single “Shot At The Night.”
Twelve months into the tour for their most recent album, Battle Born, The Killers have still had the time to record some new music.
“Shot At The Night,” previously teased in an NME interview (June 22 issue) as sounding like a cross between “Smile Like You Mean It” and “Miss Atomic Bomb,” will be the lead single from the 15 track greatest hits album, appropriately named Direct Hits.
“Shot At The Night” was recorded with Anthony Gonzalez, of the French electronic band M83, and his influence is clear. “Shot At The Night” is drenched in synths, with a memorable drum break and soaring vocals.
A music video, directed by Robert Schober, who has previously worked with The Killers on “I Feel It In My Bones” and “Cowboys’ Christmas Ball” has been recorded for the track. We expect to see it release in the next few days.
It will star young actors Bella Heathcote and Max Minghella, according to TKN, and will show us the many sights we’ve come to associate with Las Vegas including Elvis impersonators, the Little White Wedding Chapel and of course, casinos.
One other new track will also feature (“Just Another Girl”), giving fans some motivation to add Direct Hits to their collection.
Direct Hits will feature all the band’s major singles, such as “Mr. Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me” from their début album Hot Fuss and “When You Were Young,” “Read My Mind” and “For Reasons Unknown” from the 2006 album Sam’s Town.
More of our favourite Killers tracks from Day & Age and Battle Born will also feature on the greatest hits album, including “Human” and “Miss Atomic Bomb.”
Notable omissions include “Bones,” “Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine,” “Tranquilize” (featuring Lou Reed) and “Here With Me.”
A Killers greatest hits album will show off the diversity of the band’s hits, from the dark synthpop of Hot Fuss and relentless rock of Sam’s Town to the sax and percussion infused pop of Day & Age and the epic stadium rock of their newest offering, “Battle Born.”
Not enough new Killers music for you? Don’t despair, we see no reason for the band to break with their tradition of releasing Christmas singles annually for charity.
During an interview with Zane Lowe on Radio 1, lead singer Brandon Flowers also confirmed he had begun work on a second solo record, following 2010’s Flamingo.
“Shot At The Night” is available to download tomorrow (Tuesday 17th). Direct Hits releases on November 11 in Europe and the U.K. and November 12 in North America.
A £75 super deluxe box set will also be available (only confirmed for the U.K. at the time of writing), which includes the deluxe CD, a new documentary about the band and five 10″ vinyl records featuring the singles on Direct Hits.
