The first trailer for the book to film adaptation of The Girl on the Train has arrived, and it probably won’t disappoint readers of Paula Hawkins’ novel.
The Girl on the Train — the book — hit store shelves in January 2015 and quickly became a huge hit in the literature community. Just over a year later we have a trailer for the movie adaptation which is slated to hit theaters on October 7, 2016. Watch below!
The trailer is dark and sexy, inviting comparisons to two other hit book to film adaptations from the past couple of years: Gone Girl and (dare we say) Fifty Shades of Grey. I’m hoping it’s not very similar to the latter, and that they’re only including those sexy scenes in the trailer to draw in the Grey readers/viewers (of which there are millions). If I remember correctly, sex isn’t a huge part of The Girl on the Train book, after all.
The movie stars Emily Blunt as Rachel, Haley Bennett as Megan, Luke Evans as Scott, Rebecca Ferguson as Anna, Laura Prepon as Cathy, Justin Theroux as Tom, Lisa Kudrow as Monica, and Allison Janney as one of the detectives.
“In the thriller, Rachel (Blunt), who is devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day, until one morning she sees something shocking happen there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds,” reads a synopsis from Universal.
What do you think of ‘The Girl on the Train’ adaptation so far?
Does the trailer live up to the expectations set by the excellent book?
