The Flash season 2 has been filling up with speedsters, and another one is joining the ranks — and we’re finally getting some girl power.
Newcomer Violett Beane will play Jesse Quick in The Flash season 2, joining a roster of speedsters that, besides Barry Allen, includes Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears), Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale), and Zoom.
On The Flash, Jesse will be “a brilliant but quirky college student who gets caught up in the battle between” Barry’s Flash and Zoom. She will appear in multiple episodes.
In the DC comics, Jesse Quick is also known as Jesse Chambers. A superhero legacy, she is the daughter of the Golden Age heroes Liberty Belle and Johnny Quick. She has operated as both Jesse Quick and Liberty Belle, and has been a member of the Justice Society of America, Justice League of America, and Teen Titans.

Beane’s only credits are 2015’s Flay and 2016’s Slash.
Though the roster of speedsters in The Flash season 2 continues to expand, EP Gabrielle Stanton promises, “It’s always Barry’s journey. The Flash is always about Barry, but these people who come in will show us different ways that The Flash can be.”
Jay Garrick, for instance, is “going to be Barry’s mentor a little bit and help him really reach his potential” as The Flash. Details about Wally West’s appearance are being kept under wraps for now, but Stanton teases that there will be “a very interesting and close relationship” between him, Barry and the rest of the team.

As for the season’s Big Bad, Zoom, Stanton says, “Zoom is going to be very different in terms of motivation, in terms of what he wants from The Flash, in terms of why he’s doing what he’s doing.”
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how Jesse Quick figures into the dynamic of the show.
The Flash season 2 premieres Tuesday, October 6 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
