The Book Thief will be released on DVD and Blu-ray before it has landed in some countries.
For some fans, it might be easier to purchase the Blu-ray or DVD rather than waiting for The Book Thief to make it to their local cinemas. The Book Thief Blu-ray and DVD will be released on March 11, 2014, and on Digital HD on February 25, 2014.

The Blu-ray and DVD will both include deleted scenes and theatrical trailers. “A Hidden Truth: Bringing The Book Thief to Life” will be a Blu-ray exclusive. This added feature takes the Blu-ray run time up to 193 minutes, while the DVD runs only 156 minutes.

The Book Thief is an adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name from author Markus Zusak. It stars Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson, alongside newcomers Sophie Nelisse, Ben Schnetzer and Nico Liersch. The film was directed by Brian Percival and scored by Academy Award winner John Williams. Williams’ score was nominated for a Golden Globe, but lost to Alex Ebert for All Is Lost.
The film tells the story of Liesel (Nelisse), who is sent to a foster family in Germany during World War II. When her family decides to takes in and hide a Jewish man who is on the run (Schnetzer), all of their lives change forever.
