Tension between Leonard and Sheldon heated up while Mrs. Wolowitz’s food defrosted on The Big Bang Theory season 8, episode 18.
Say my name
An article about Sheldon and Leonard’s recent theory is published in Scientific American — but though Sheldon was interviewed, Leonard is not mentioned. The only reference is to “Cooper and his team.”
Sheldon nervously breaks the news to Leonard, who glumly tries not to be upset about it. But the situation gets worse when Sheldon checks back with the reporter and finds that the magazine chose to cite only Sheldon as “the lead scientist” on the project.
Sheldon admits that the reporter was really only interested in Sheldon’s work, even though the whole theory came from Leonard in the first place.
Eat your feelings
Howard, Bernadette, and Raj all go to clean out Mrs. Wolowitz’s house. Stuart, who is still living there, lets Howard know that the power is out on the whole block.
Howard races to the kitchen and is upset to find the last food his mom cooked defrosting in the freezer. Raj frowns on re-freezing, so Howard decides to have everyone over to eat the last of Ma’s food.
Howard, Raj, and Bernadette empty the freezer and start cooking, all battling their emotions.
Amy and Penny drive their boyfriends to dinner separately, each trying to convince Sheldon and Leonard of the importance of the other’s contribution. Sheldon admits that he didn’t correct the reporter when he referred to him the lead scientist… which is pretty appalling.
Amy and Penny both warn the guys to keep the fight out of dinner.
Just like old(en) times
The lavish, candlelit dinner reminds Amy of a French salon, and (after some explanation) Raj proposes a discussion topic about whether or not society is reaching gender equality. That’s the funniest idea to come from The Big Bang Theory in at least three seasons.
When the discussion flounders, Sheldon opines that what’s important is not the topic, but the way it is discussed. Leonard prickles at this, and suggests they debate whether an idea or its execution is more important.
Fed up, Sheldon tells Leonard that anyone could have had his idea, but very few could have worked out the math correctly. Leonard isn’t impressed with this, since he seems to be the only one with that particular science idea.
Bernadette has had enough and hauls the guys into the living room to chew them out, sounding just like Mrs. Wolowitz.
Later, the gang recuperates after the epic meal. Tums and the news that Leonard and Sheldon’s theory — and Leonard — are mentioned in Physics Today help them through it.
