The significance of family and country is revealed in FX’s new series The Americans through two new videos.
In “Go Undercover: The Americans First Look” the concept of identity rings throughout the video. Keri Russell’s character Elizabeth is a dedicated KGB agent who believes in the necessity of staying true to her country. She will have to grapple with challenges to this identity, including her children’s unawareness of her Russian identity as well as her husband Phillip’s (Matthew Rhys) weaker sentiments on the matter. Russell identifies the identity crisis that Elizabeth will face in that she is not allowed to speak Russian or practice any of her customs in order to fully and silently assimilate.
Both Phillip and Elizabeth are extremely complex and layered as seen in “Elizabeth,” The Americans’ preview of what to expect for her character. Elizabeth’s back-story is revealed in that she was recruited for the KGB at age 17, paired with Phillip by the KGB, and sent over to America when she was 22 years old. Are you excited to see if Phillip and Elizabeth are developing feelings for one another?
The Americans premieres Wednesday January 30 at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
