Teen Wolf’s Lydia Martin, played wonderfully by Holland Roden, is one of the biggest mysteries on the show and also one of the strongest characters.
Smart
Lydia Martin is not your average teenage socialite. Yes, she can be mean and shallow, but there is something more to her that only a few people are actually allowed to see. Under the vapid mean girl persona she demonstrated is the first season, we’ve discovered someone who is quite brilliant when it comes to math and science. This is not normally a trait seen in female characters unless they are classified as “nerds.” Lydia’s smarts have saved Scott and company many times. Let’s be real, did you know flares were self-oxidizing and could be used under water?
Fearless
This one may be confusing to some as Lydia often screams and seems terrified. Putting that aside, however, Lydia has never really shied away from a situation. Last season, she was the only one who approached Jackson in a non-combative way when he was in the Kanima form. Lydia also had to deal with the creepy spirit in last week’s episode as well as numerous other situations that would make your average person faint.
Loyal
No matter what happens, Lydia stands by those she cares about. She stood by Jackson through all his being a murderous creature phase. She stood by Alison even when she went a little off the rails after her mom died. Let’s face it, Lydia may be hooking up with one of the evil twins, but she’s not sharing trade secrets with him. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point Lydia’s connection to him becomes useful to Scott and the others.
Immunity
This may seem like a funny characteristic to include, but being immune to a werewolf bite is pretty bad ass. For all intents and purposes, Lydia should be dead or a werewolf by now. She manages to get herself in some crazy situations, but being immune to the bite has saved her from turning. However, it still begs the questions how is she immune and, more importantly, what the hell is she?
Sassy
Even in the most dire of situations, Lydia has a sarcastic remark. She’s not afraid to tell it like it is even if it could hurt feelings. We’ve supplied a few quotes, and you should tell us your favorite Lydia quotes in the comments!
“Jackson is gonna perform tomorrow, but he’s not gonna be at his peak and I prefer my boyfriend at peak performance.”
“Allison, I love you. So, if you want to do that thing where we talk about you, and pretend we’re talking about me, that’s fine. But, I don’t want a boyfriend. I want a distraction.”
“I will not fall prey to society’s desire to turn girls into emotional insecure neurotics who pull up their dresses at the first flattering remark.”
