We’ve waited with baited breath about Dylan O’Brien’s fate in Teen Wolf season 6 and now we’ve got more information about what role he’ll play.
After the actor’s accident on the set of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, and the movie’s subsequent postponement, we weren’t sure how O’Brien would fit into Teen Wolf this season. He had already filmed his part of the season in the weeks he was present on set before he left for Death Cure, but would his injuries further complicate his time on the show?
EW has a first look at O’Brien on the set of Teen Wolf. This picture was taken before the actor left for The Death Cure filming.
Can I just take a moment to say how nice it is to see him in Teen Wolf Land again? I know this is before the accident, but Dylan’s reps have been so quiet following his injury I was worried we’d never hear something new ever again.
The picture doesn’t show much other than Stiles’ trademark plaid shirt, but there are a few important details to work through. First, the hallway is unfamiliar. Is this the new and improved Beacon Hills High School after it was torn apart by The Beast, or is it a new location? In the background, there are several students, a police officer, and Ms. Martin.
O’Brien is sporting a hand injury, but EW confirms this happened prior to Death Cure filming and is unrelated to what the actor is currently recuperating from. Showrunner Jeff Davis decided to work it into the show rather than try to cover it up.
The last time Davis wrote something into the show like this, it was Tyler Posey’s circular tattoo, and that ended up being a significant part of the season. Who knows if the hand injury will be granted the same level of importance, but it could be a plot point leading up to the main crux of the season.
Continuing to speak with Davis, EW reports, “Stiles is a big part of the season because a lot of this season’s mystery revolves around him.” This is particularly interesting because we know O’Brien only had time to film for a couple of weeks before departing for the movie set.
Many fans believe Stiles will go missing or be seriously injured and put into a coma, thus providing an excuse for the actor’s absence. Since this season is about mind control, it’s possible that Stiles is one of the villains’ early victims and is taken away in the first couple of episodes.
Of course, this is all speculation, but if Stiles were to go missing, it would allow the season to still focus on him and his relationships with our main heroes without needing the actor present. Posey also tells EW, “You fall in love with Stiles every episode,” which is heartening for any fan to hear.
But EW isn’t providing the only look at Dylan O’Brien in Teen Wolf season 6. MTV also provides a few behind-the-scenes images.
We can also gather a few things from these images. Firstly, this confirms the woman standing behind Stiles in the EW first look is indeed Ms. Martin. In MTV’s BTS shot, she’s looking concerned, but is it about Stiles or Lydia? The younger Martin is noticeably absent in all of these images. Ms. Martin and Stiles don’t have the best relationship, but after season 5B’s events, I’m hoping she’s really coming around at this point. Considering there was a cop in the other picture too, something horrible probably happened.
In a few of the other shots, Stiles and Scott are talking, and Scott is the only one sporting his lacrosse equipment. We don’t yet know how Stiles attained his injury, but either way it looks like it’s keeping him off the field. (And since lacrosse is back, we can only hope we get more Coach!)
Malia is also featured in an image with Stiles, though there’s nothing we can glean there. Stiles is also standing in front of Scott in another one, pointing into the distance. It’s all very mysterious.
Teen Wolf will be attending San Diego Comic-Con this year, and Hypable will be there to bring you all the relevant news from the fan panel, the round tables, and even their Nerd HQ panel. We know we’re getting a trailer for season 6 and mostly likely the release date too, but who knows what else they might drop on us while we’re there!
EW does confirm Teen Wolf will be returning this fall.
