The Star Wars spinoff/standalone movies have been rumored to feature Han Solo as a major character. Could Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton step into the hot role?
In addition to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Episode VIII, and Star Wars: Episode IX, there are two Star Wars spinoff/standalone movies currently in development.
The one up first is Godzilla director Gareth Edwards’ next film that will probably star Felicity Jones, coming in 2016. The other was supposed to be directed by Chronicle and the currently unreleased Fantastic Four director Josh Trank, but there are rumblings that he may be replaced.
Both films have been rumored at some point to feature a younger version of Han Solo. The new rumor says that Egerton would star in the second one, but if the films take place anywhere near the same point in Han Solo’s life, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Egerton in both. Of course, if the films truly are standalone films, then they could perhaps have two different actors playing Han Solo.
The rumor that Kingsman: The Secret Service star Taron Egerton could star in the film as Han Solo comes from the UK tabloid The Sun, which itself wouldn’t be even close to a reputable source, but it’s kinda sorta backed up by a second, more trustworthy source. The article isn’t online, but Daily Mail picked it up.
According to the report, the second film would show “how Harrison Ford’s iconic character got the Millennium Falcon and as well as showing how he fell out with Jabba the Hutt.” If that’s true, it’s quite possible the film would also have to feature Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca.
Given the source we normally wouldn’t normally pay attention to the rumor, but the writer of the comic Kingsman: The Secret Service is based on commented on the report.
Taron shot first. #justsayin

Is he just reacting to the rumor or does he know something? That’s the million dollar question.
If a Star Wars standalone movie is to center around Han Solo, Egerton would be a good choice. Kingsman proved that he has the acting chops to play dramatic and comedic moments well, and he has the ability to pull off the Han Solo swagger.
