Although it’s still over five months until J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters, Abrams graciously gave a very special advanced showing to a die-hard Trek fan – who is dying of cancer and won’t live long enough to see the film in May.

Though we’ve seen a teaser poster and trailer, details on Benedict Cumberbatch’s antagonist character in Star Trek Into Darkness have been scarce.

Every detail of the follow-up to 2009’s wildly successful Star Trek reboot has been unsurprisingly shrouded in secrecy, but in the past few days, speculation on the movie’s title has solidified into confirmation from Paramount Pictures and the film’s cast.

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch has given an honest and insightful interview in which he discusses everything from Sherlock series 3, his reservations about Elementary and shooting Hollywood blockbusters The Hobbit and Star Trek 2.

It has been announced via press release that J.J. Abrams will release Star Trek 2 in IMAX 3D format, with “key scenes” filmed using IMAX cameras. The film will be post-converted to incorporate 3D. More information after the jump.
