Microsoft has announced a venture into the tablet market, hoping to take on Apple, Samsung and Google. The tablet, called Surface, features the new Windows 8 OS, and appears to be a direct competitor to the iPad.
The Surface tablet features a 10.6-inch display and will be 0.4 inches thick. The tablet will come with a built-in stand, and its cover doubles as a keyboard complete with touchpad.
Significantly, Surface has a full-sized USB port. Intel and ARM-based options are available, but Microsoft has not yet released any of Surface’s pricing details.
Microsoft has not provided a release date.
Do you think Microsoft will be able to loosen Apple’s stranglehold on the tablet market? What do you make of Surface?
