Two new tidbits about upcoming episodes in Supernatural‘s eighth season have surfaced, including the return of a familiar face and more about the LARPing episode.
Sam and Dean, though loners, occasionally work with other hunters. In season 5’s “Sam, Interrupted,” the brothers helped out another hunter, Martin Creaser, on a case in a mental institution. Now Zap2It is reporting that actor Jon Gries will reprise that role this season.
When the Winchesters helped Martin, he was a patient at the mental institution the brothers infiltrated. It sounds like Martin is free and Sam will be calling him for a favor. In the season’s ninth episode, entitled “Citizen Fang”, “Sam asks Martin to keep an eye on Benny after some unexplained deaths in Benny’s hometown.” This comes after Sam meets Benny in episode 5. And while “Dean won’t be particularly happy about it,” he won’t be alone. When “Martin finds out that a Winchester has teamed up with a vampire, he will not be impressed.”
We also reported earlier that Supernatural will have an episode dealing with live action role playing (LARPing). Now Zap2It has more details on the episode, including the title: “LARP and the Real Girl”, in reference to the 2007 movie Lars and the Real Girl, starring Ryan Gosling.
In this episode, which will be the eleventh episode of the season, “[w]e’ll meet Gerald, a LARPer who prefers to be referred to as an ‘interactive literaturist.’ He goes a little too far with his fascination with a medieval-style game.”
This will not be the first time Supernatural has delved into LARPing, as season 4’s “The Monster at the End of This Book” introduced the idea, and season 5’s “The Real Ghostbusters” went more in depth with it.
