Every Super needs a Luthor, and Katie McGrath will be sticking around in that vein in Supergirl season 3.
McGrath, who was cast to play Lena Luthor in Supergirl season 2, has been promoted to series regular for Supergirl‘s third season, Deadline reports.
Lena is the younger sister of Lex, and she moved to National City to get out from under the shadow of her infamous brother. Kara befriended Lena and has stuck beside her, even when everyone else has shown hesitance to trust a Luthor.
This has been especially tricky since it was revealed that Lena’s adoptive mother, Lillian, is the head of Cadmus, the anti-alien organization Kara and co. have been fighting this season.
Despite being adopted, Lena recently learned that she is half-Luthor; Lionel Luthor was her father. Lionel had an affair with another woman, which led to Lena. After Lena’s mother’s death, Lionel brought her into the family despite Lillian’s protestations. Lex, however, took to her immediately and the siblings had a strong relationship until Lex turned vengeful against Superman.
Supergirl airs Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
