CBS has found their Supergirl. The show will be led by actress Melissa Benoist, best known for her role as Marley Rose on Glee.
Though her time as Marley has seemingly come to an end on Glee, Benoist’s career is only starting to heat up. Supergirl is sure to be a hit for CBS in light of other recent network superhero successes like Arrow and The Flash.
Greg Berlanti is the producer behind Supergirl and is responsible for the aforementioned superhero hits.
The show will be based on the DC comic series of the same name.
It’s interesting that this is the second Glee alum to get their own superhero show. Grant Gustin, who played Sebastian, a pesky love interest to Blaine, ended up being cast as The Flash for Arrow and eventually his own spinoff.
“Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago,” the synopsis for Supergirl reads. “Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.”
The Supergirl pilot was written by Ali Alder and Berlanti.
You may recognize Benoist from such shows as Homeland and The Good Wife. She also had a supporting role in Whiplash which stars Miles Teller.
A first-look image has surfaced of Benoist with her new blonde locks, which she’ll be sporting for Supergirl. It looks very natural! Do you think it suits her?
The image was taken by stylist Riawna Capri, and posted on The Wrap.
