As the weather heats up (in the northern hemisphere), finals come to an end and graduates turn their tassels, here’s a roundup of some of the most anticipated new summer TV shows of 2012.
The Choice
The Voice meets The Dating Game in Fox’s The Choice, hosted by So You Think You Can Dance host and producer Cat Deeley.
Each episode, four celebrity bachelors will choose three suitors by listening to their voices in the blind rounds. If more than one celeb turns his chair, it’s the suitor who makes the choice. The suitors then go through two more rounds before each bachelor makes his final choice for a dream date.
Celebrity participants will include Joe Jonas, Tyson Beckford, Rob Kardashian and, on a bachelorette-focused episode, Carmen Elektra.
(Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox)
Bunheads
Broadway vet and Tony Award winner Sutton Foster turns in her blonde curls and tap shoes from her stint in Anything Goes for ballet shoes in ABC Family’s Bunheads.
Foster plays Michelle Simms – a former ballerina turned Vegas showgirl who gets married on a whim and moves to a sleepy town with her new hubby. There she starts working at her mother-in-law’s dance studio where she connects with her young dance students. ABC Family’s newest original series is produced by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.

Snooki & JWoww
Pregnant Snooki is bound to be a hoot.
The Jersey Shore besties move in together and deal with the changes that come with Snooki’s engagement and pregnancy in MTV’s Snooki & JWoww.
Tune in to see the duo take over Jersey City in this 12-episode series.
(June 21 at 10 p.m. ET on MTV)
The Newsroom
The Hypable newsroom is so excited for Aaron Sorkin’s latest TV venture that we’ve already created a fandom for it. Chronicling the behind-the-scenes drama at a fictional cable news network, The Newsroom will deal with workplace relationships and real news events, such as Osama Bin Laden’s death and the BP oil spill of 2010.
Starring Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Sam Waterston and Dev Patel, HBO’s upcoming drama is already garnering a lot of buzz. Let’s just hope the show turns out more like The West Wing than Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
(June 24 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO)
Anger Management
Charlie Sheen is back and, amusingly enough, he’s counseling patients through their anger.
Sheen returns to television as “Charlie,” a non-traditional therapist in FX’s Anger Management, co-starring Selma Blair, Shawnee Smith, Daniela Bobadilla, Michael Arden, and Noureen DeWulf.
As a former baseball player sidelined due to anger issues, Charlie runs a private practice while dealing with his own anger and his daughter’s obsessive-compulsive disorder in this upcoming comedy.
(June 28 at 9 p.m. ET on FX)
Brand X With Russell Brand
You either love him or you hate him, but FX is showing the love for comedian Russell Brand with a new late-night comedy show focused on politics, current events and pop culture.
Brand has shown he has plenty to say about nearly everything during his stints as host of the VMAs and the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.
He’ll give his unfiltered opinion in front of a live audience in his upcoming half-hour series.
(June 28 at 11 p.m. ET on FX)
Married to Jonas
Producer Ryan Seacrest has had plenty of success by sending cameras to follow the Kardashians around, and we’ll soon find out just how entertaining the Jo Bros are in everyday life.
Though Married to Jonas will follow the lives of newlyweds Kevin and Danielle Jonas, Joe and Nick are bound to make appearances as the trio is working on a new album for possible release later this year.
As Seacrest describes, “the show will examine the ups and downs of Dani and Kevin’s marriage, against the backdrop of their contrasting family cultures, traditions and individual careers.”
(Aug. 19 on E!)
If none of these new shows fill you with excitement, there are always episodes of returning hits, such as America’s Got Talent, Pretty Little Liars, So You Think You Can Dance, Breaking Bad and True Blood. Or you could do like me and cozy up to new episodes of Weeds (July 1 on Showtime) and Cake Boss (Mondays on TLC).
