A huge new banner for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 finds Katniss standing on top of a fallen statue of doomed Panem leader President Snow.
Squad 451 is positioned at the foot of the crumbling Capitol as Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) stands in front of the setting sun. There’s no question about it: The Girl on Fire will be taking down Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final movie this fall.
We couldn’t help but murmur, “Oh, shit,” as soon as we saw this.
From left to right in front of the statue are Finnick (Sam Claflin), Boggs (Mahershala Ali), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Cressida (Natalie Dormer), Messalla (Evan Ross), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Castor (Wes Chatham), and Pollux (Elden Henson). Here’s a full look at the banner:
Since this banner is extremely wide, we’ve split it into a couple of photos:
This Mockingjay, Part 2 banner is stunning and made us gasp as soon as we took a look at it. There are so many little things in here that symbolize the upcoming storyline: Katniss standing on Snow’s shoulder, the sun setting (or rising?), the crumbling buildings surrounding Katniss and company.
Lionsgate released this poster on Monday to mark the five year anniversary of the Mockingjay book being published.
Visually this poster brings back memories of the Catching Fire banner in which the various participants were standing along the water:
Today’s new poster is the latest in a growing line of promotional material for the final film in The Hunger Games series. Don’t forget to check out the eight character posters intimately depicting each of the lead characters with war paint on their face. There’s also this poster of Katniss sitting in President Snow’s chair and wearing the same red suit she does in the banner above.
We love how Lionsgate isn’t shying away from revealing what will be happening when Katniss takes on the Capitol in Mockingjay, Part 2. We suppose they don’t want to bother keeping it a secret because there may be as many Hunger Games book readers out there as there are Hunger Games moviegoers.
Mockingjay, Part 2 hits theaters this November.
