Team StarKid are now a week into their national Apocalyptour and we thought it was time we rounded up a selection of videos to share with all you StarKid fans who aren’t able to make it to the tour. Check them out below! Warning: if you ARE attending the tour, you may want to avoid this post for spoilers!
We’ve hand-picked a few of our favorite performances from the tour set:
This first video is the opening number of the set – “Me and My Dick,” leading into “Ready To Go” – both songs from the musical Me and My Dick. The scene that takes place after the number sets up the story of StarKid bringing about the apocalypse, invoking the wrath of an ancient Mayan god named Margaret (played by Jim Povolo.) Also, a StarKid show just wouldn’t be complete without a jibe poking fun at Darren Criss and Glee – the first omen of the apocalypse being when one of the StarKids is “consumed by a giant, greedy Fox.”
Brian Holden sings lead on a jazzed-up version of “Guys Like Potter.” Well done to music director Clark Baxtresser for this fantastic re-imagining of the A Very Potter Sequel ballad.
This one is a seamless medley of ‘villain’ songs – “Not Over Yet” from A Very Potter Sequel into “Kick It Up A Notch” from Starship into “Rogues Are We” from Holy Musical B@man!
One for the old-school fans – a medley of songs from the Battle of the Bands in Little White Lie. “Caught In The Lie”/”Boy Toy”/”Fancy Machine”/”Love Grenade”
This video starts out with a A Very Potter Musical’s “Missing You,” but the real focus here is the spectacular mash-up of “Sami” from Little White Lie and “Harry” from A Very Potter Musical. “Sami,” which Darren Criss wrote for Little White Lie, was recycled as “Harry” in AVPM and here it’s turned into a duet between Dylan Saunders and Jaime Lyn Beatty, arguably Team StarKid’s strongest male and female vocalists. This is a real show-stopper and again we give props to Clark for creating this beautiful arrangement.
“Not Alone” has become just as much of a Darren Criss trademark as pink Wayfarers, and the number was noticeably absent from last year’s SPACE Tour. However, on Apocalyptour it’s belted out by Jaime Lyn Beatty, who originally sang it in A Very Potter Musical.
Here’s the closing scene of the show, featuring Margaret joining Team StarKid! They finish the main set with a medley of closing numbers – “Days of Summer” from A Very Potter Sequel, “Goin’ Back To Hogwarts” from A Very Potter Musical (though they do the opening part of this as well!) and the “Finale,” from Me and My Dick.
One last video – of course there was an encore, and the final song of the encore was “Super Friends,” the infectious closing number of the newest StarKid show Holy Musical B@man!
As promised, Team StarKid have also posted their first video blog and also their fan challenge (killing an innocent piñata):
Thank you to all the fans who have taken videos at the concerts and posted them online, and we hope that you’ve enjoyed seeing these! If you’ve seen Apocalyptour, or seen the videos online – what number is your favorite? What do you think of the show?
