Leaked merchandise from Star Wars: The Force Awakens has seemingly given away a major change to fan favorite C-3PO’s appearance.
Forget about whether or not J.J. Abrams will really kill off Jar-Jar Binks in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s Jar-Jar, nobody cares.
Let’s instead turn our attention to C-3PO, or “Threepio,” one half of the dynamic droid duo that’s been with the Star Wars fandom through all six movies.

C-3PO and R2-D2 were, in fact, the first two characters to appear on screen in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. And The Force Awakens wouldn’t be a proper Star Wars film without them.
According to the fansite Making Star Wars, however, Threepio is finally in for a bit of an upgrade.
Two pieces of leaked merchandise, a cup found in Mexico and a children’s table found in the lost city of Atlantis (not really, but this is starting to feel like a Jules Verne-type adventure novel), depict C-3PO with — gasp — a red arm!
We should have known J.J. Abrams wouldn’t be able to resist cutting someone’s hand off.

This opens up a whole new set of questions: what happened to his arm? Why isn’t his new arm gold like the rest of him? Does this red finish come with special powers, like laser beams or super strength?
Either way, we’ll look forward to hearing C-3PO tell us all about it, because surely it’ll be part of his ranting monologue to the chirping R2-D2.
