Disney XD has renewed Star Wars Rebels for a third exciting season, and the animated series debuts intense artwork for the cover of TVGuide.
The renewal was announced today by Disney XD’s Senior Vice President of Programing and general manager Marc Buhaj.
“We are proud to bring our audience a third season of Star Wars Rebels, a series that has resonated across generations,” Buhaj says. “The creative team behind the series continues to do a brilliant job in delivering on the key tenets that fans have come to expect from a Star Wars property including adventure, hope and the battle between good vs. evil.”
Star Wars Rebels season 2 is currently airing, and has been received enthusiastically by fans young and old. The series is Disney XD’s second most watched in total viewers, and the network’s most watched show in the adult demographic.
Lucasfilm’s Kiri Hart says that the company is “very proud of our incredibly creative Rebels team,” led by showrunner Dave Filoni. “Season 3 will see our rebel heroes face new obstacles and find new allies in their fight against the Empire.”
Production is currently underway for Star Wars Rebels season 3, which will be among the first Star Wars visual media created in the aftermath of The Force Awakens.

The hotly-anticipated film will probably not have a major impact on the series, which takes place before A New Hope. But given the interconnected nature of the new Star Wars universe, we wouldn’t count out a few sneaky cross-overs.
Meanwhile, Star Wars Rebels will further assert its success by appearing on the cover of December’s Star Wars-heavy issue of TVGuide Magazine.
