A 32-second long TV spot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens features a voiceover by Lupita Nyong’o’s mysterious CGI character!
We’ve met all our main heroes and villains: Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), and, of course, BB8.

We’ve also been reintroduced to Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), although Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) has been conspicuously absent from the promos and posters for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
And now, with less than two months to go (!), it’s time to meet some of the other players in the saga — namely, Lupita Nyong’o’s Maz Kanata. Kanata is an all-CGI creature, and she’s not physically present in the trailer — in fact, Nyong’o has previously said that her character’s look will be kept secret until the release of the film!
We also don’t yet know if she’ll be a friend or a foe to our heroes, although her ethereal voice-over in this TV spot suggests she might take on a Yoda-like mentor role for one or more of the new characters:
“I have lived long enough to see the same eyes in different people,” Kanata proclaims, over shots of Rey and Han Solo, followed by Poe, and Finn. “I see your eyes,” she continues, “I know your eyes.”
Fans looking for more proof of Rey being the daughter of Han Solo might take this TV spot as further proof… but we’ll have to wait for the movie until we know for sure.
Rey tells Finn to “follow me,” presumably as the Stormtroopers invade their town, and the title cards inform us that “every generation has a story.”
We can’t wait to find out what the next generation of Jedi and rebel fighters are up to!
