Speaking at a conference in Santa Monica on Thursday, Disney CEO Bob Iger opened up about near and far plans for Star Wars.
It’s not often that we’ll learn anything juicy about the future of Star Wars since each film’s plot is kept very secret, but today we received a few interesting tidbits from the head of the Mouse House, who acquired Lucasfilm / Star Wars in 2012. Here’s what we learned, per Variety:
- There will be no changes to Star Wars Episode 8, The Last Jedi, in light of Carrie Fisher’s untimely passing. “We are not changing ‘8’ to deal with her passing. Her performance remains as it was in ‘8,’” he said. “In ‘Rogue One,’ we created digitally a few characters… We’re not doing that with Carrie.”
- What can we expect to see in the Han Solo spinoff? We watch them “acquiring a certain vehicle [Millenium Falcon of course!] and meeting a certain Wookie. You’ll also discover how he got his name.” The movie, which is still untitled, will cover six years of Han’s life (from 18 to 24).
- Lucasfilm is currently exploring how to develop “what could be another decade and a half of ‘Star Wars’ stories,” he said. But we doubt it’ll end in 15 years.
- Finally, how does the head of Disney watch some of the Star Wars footage being shot on a daily basis? “[I sometimes watch] on my laptop in bed under the covers,” he said.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters this December.
