New reports suggest that actor Idris Elba is reportedly in early talks to play the villain in Star Trek 3.
With director Justin Lin helming the picture since J.J Abrams headed off into Star Wars, and Simon Pegg co-writing the film, it’s time for new rumors to start coming out about who will play the film’s main villain.
The always incredible Idris Elba, who was reportedly asked to play the new Bond over the last year, will be playing the new villain in Star Trek 3. J.J. Abrams is producing the sequel, and it’s expect to start this June.
We think that Elba would be an excellent choice for a villain, although he’ll most likely be wearing makeup of some sort, as they went with the human-like villain in Star Trek: Into Darkness, where Benedict Cumberbatch played the amazingly powerful Khan.
Variety reports that Elba’s role is currently under lock and key, but early rumors suggest that Klingons will be the main villains in the sequel, as they haven’t had a major presence in the previous films, despite their popularity with the fanbase.
There are currently no confirmed reports that Elba will be cast as the film’s villain, but the actor has been unwilling to comment about the rumor.
Despite changing directors, and writers, Paramount has given Star Trek 3 a July 8, 2016 release date. This is reportedly an attempt to link the film with the franchise’s 50th anniversary. We look forward to finding out more about Star Trek 3 as Pegg and Jung work on the script.
