Spirit and Dust by Rosemary Clement-Moore is the perfect combination of paranormal mystery and sassy characters.
Spirit and Dust is the companion novel to Texas Gothic. It follows Daisy Goodnight, the psychic cousin of Amy Goodnight. Daisy is a first rate psychic who began working with the FBI in order to solve various cases. Not everyone at the FBI is a fan of Daisy’s work, but luckily she has one young agent that works with her specifically and trusts her abilities.
Daisy is a Goodnight so nothing is ever easy. While working on a kidnapping case the FBI, Daisy manages to get herself kidnapped by the crime family of the missing girl. The girl’s father isn’t above using magic and Daisy to find his daughter, and thus Daisy’s adventure begins. With the help of the elusive, semi-bad boy Carson, Daisy sets out to find the missing girl and the truth behind what is going one.
The story is action packed from start to finish. Daisy is a loveable character and seeing the story through her eyes gives you more insight to the Goodnight family and just what they are capable of. Carson is a mystery for most of the book and as each little secret is revealed you feel for him more and more. Then there is Agent Taylor. He and Daisy definitely have a connection, and he is willing to do anything to save her.
This is a must read for lovers of Clarity by Kim Harrington and Veronica Mars. You can read Spirit and Dust as a stand alone but then you would be missing the wonderful Texas Gothic.
