Season 11 has come to a close, and we will be treated to a lot of wonderful dances by the season’s top 20, before America’s favorite dancer is revealed.
What’s on the line
Well, the time has come. Though it seems like it only just started, season 11 of So You Think You Can Dance is coming to a close, and it’s time to reveal the winner. Returning to the previous format, there will only be one winner this year, instead of one guy and one girl. This year’s winner will receive $250,000, be featured on the cover of Dance Spirit Magazine, and a role in the upcoming Broadway revival of On The Town. Not for nothing, the other three will still get to go on tour as part of the top 20 with the SYTYCD Live tour, which kicks off in October.
Special guests
Some of our favorites will be joining executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and ballroom expert Mary Murphy on the judges panel for the finale. Dancer and actress Jenna Dewan Tatum, dance legend Debbie Allen, Olympic figure skater and commentator Tara Lipinski, and producer/choreographer/crier Adam Shankman will all be on hand to celebrate an amazing season of dance. Each judge will pick their favorite dance of the season for the dancers to perform again, so we get one last look at some of the best season 11 has to offer.
Guest performances
There are going to be performances galore! Aside from all of the contestants’ performances, we have guest dance and musical performances as well.
Enrique Iglesias and Sean Paul will take the stage to perform their hit “Bailando” from Iglesias’ latest album, Sex and Love. French hip hop dancer Les Twins will take the stage to show their stuff, as well as So You Think You Can Dance Australia winner Michael Dameski.
Oh, and remember that useless dance crews competition that never really went anywhere? Well, the final crew, Wanted Ashiqs, will perform as part of the finale. That makes it seem as though they won, but this is just their chance to perform live on the SYTYCD stage. I guess there is no winner? It was a great idea for SYTYCD to include dance crews, but it was very poorly executed. Here’s hoping next year will be better.
What’s to come
Speaking of next year: Normally, by this point, Nigel has made a dramatic reveal of the fact that So You Think You Can Dance has been renewed for another season, by the skin of its teeth. There has been no such announcement about season 12 yet, but that would certainly be a great way to end the season 11 finale!
