The first trailer for the Sundance-hit Smashed, featuring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul in a drama chronicling alcoholism, has been released.
The film follows Kate and Charlie, who like to have a good time. Their marriage thrives on a shared fondness for music, laughter… and getting smashed. When Kate’s partying spirals into hard-core asocial behavior, compromising her job as an elementary schoolteacher, something’s got to give. But change isn’t exactly a cakewalk. Sobriety means she will have to confront the lies she’s been spinning at work, her troubling relationship with her mother, and the nature of her bond with Charlie.
Directed by James Ponsoldt, you can watch the trailer below via Yahoo!.
The film co-stars Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) and Octavia Spencer (The Help). It is currently playing at the Toronto International Film Festival, although it debuted back in January at the Sundance Film Festival, where the performance from Winstead, in particular, received rave reviews.
Ponsoldt wrote the script with Susan Blake, who drew upon her own experiences as a recovering alcoholic to capture the realism in the film. The film hits limited release on October 5, 2012. What do you think of the trailer? Are you excited to see Smashed?
