Sleepy Hollow season 2, episode 14, “Kali Yuga,” aired last night! Find out what happened with our favorite Sleepy Hollow residents in our recap.
Family Matters
Abbie, Jenny, Ichabod and Hawley are at a bar – a karaoke bar! Although their time is cut short when Hawley has to leave early, claiming to pick up throwing stars from a client. He arrives at the scene and instead of a client it’s Carmilla, the woman who apparently raised him. He’s been avoiding her for a decade, but she’s finally back in his life. Carmilla says there’s a job in Sleepy Hollow and they need to break into Theodore Knox’ estate. He refuses but then she turns into a weird demon thing and says he can’t.
There’s been a breach at the Archives, and Ichabod and Abbie go to check out why the alarm rung and the place is a mess, things are everywhere. It turns out it was Hawley, and when Jenny runs after him into the tunnels he tells her that “She’s dangerous and she’s desperate,” talking about Carmilla. She follows Hawley and gets attacked by Carmilla but is then saved by Ichabod and Abbie.
After doing some research, Abbie, Jenny and Ichabod find out that Carmilla is a vetala, a demon who serves Kali (Goddess of death) and is immortal. They decide to split up – Jenny and Abbie will head to the guy who was supposed to do the trade with Hawley while Ichabod and Katrina figure out what Hawley took.
A Supernatural Fort Knox
Ichabod finds out that Hawley took the original architecture designs for Theodore Knox’ house, and Jenny pitches in to let them know that Theodore Knox is also a collector of occult items. There’s a vault in the house that contains some of the most dangerous items in the world, and Carmilla clearly wants something from inside it, so it’s up to the crew to stop her.
Hawley gives Carmilla the blueprints, and she explains that she wasn’t always a vetala. Hawley ran away from Carmilla when she murdered someone (and he could tell it wasn’t the first time she’d done it) and so she went looking for him. Tracked him all the way to Mumbai when she got caught by a death cult, who turned her into what she is now. She realizes that there’s an artifact in the vault that can turn her human again, and needs Hawley’s help to get it.
Turns out that night the Knox estate is having a black market exchange, and the crew is going in with their own special items in order to get in and keep Carmilla out of the vault. Abbie and Ichabod cover Carmilla while Jenny goes to get Hawley. Jenny catches up with him but he tricks her and traps her in a closet because he claims he doesn’t need her help.
Hawley manages to open the vault for Carmilla, and she gets her hands on the item she needs, but before she can escape with it Abigail tries to shoot her. Carmilla puts Abbie in a death grip and Ichabod tries to shoot an arrow at Carmilla but doesn’t know if he can shoot her before she kills Abbie.
Hawley shows up and offers Carmilla a deal – if she lets them go unharmed then he’ll leave with her. She agrees and traps them in the vault while she takes the statue she wanted – the item that helps turns people into vetalas (and maybe back?). Although apparently Carmilla’s entire story was a con, and she drugs Hawley and aims to turn him into a vetala as well.
Abbie and Crane are trapped in the vault, and need to figure a way out of it before they die (yeah, there are huge spikes in the walls – Star Wars style). While they were in there they discussed their relationship and their partnership, and their lack of communication. Luckily they manage to get out of the vault alive and catch up with Jenny.
In her earlier altercation with Hawley, Jenny’s cellphone was stolen so they use it to track Hawley. Speaking of which, Hawley is tied to a table as Carmilla turns other men into vetalas. Ichabod and Abbie get to him as Carmilla is finishing the spell to turn him into one, but they have to fight the other vetalas before they can help. They manage to get Hawley free and he was just about to kill Carmilla before she runs off and escapes.
The Captain’s Back
Meanwhile, Captain Irving has been exonerated from all charges and is now a free man once again. Although it’s clear his wife is still worried about whether or not he’s good or evil. Later that night she explains why she’s feeling so uneasy, and she needs to know for sure that he’s him and says Katrina can help them.
At the end of the episode Irving visits Katrina and she does agree to do a spell on him to figure out if he’s good or evil. He drinks a potion and Katrina is quickly able to tell that his soul is free from Henry, and he has no influence on him anymore. But she still doesn’t know how he survived, and when Irving hugs his wife he notices he has no reflection in the window.
