EA has confirmed that the upcoming addition to the classic SimCity series will need an Internet connection to play. SimCity, currently slated to release in 2013, will have a multiplayer mode – a first for the series.
An EA representative told Joystiq that with a new emphasis on multiplayer content, including a “global economy,” an Internet connection will always be required for the game to run, even when in single player mode.
SimCity will be available to download through digital-distribution platforms as well as EA’s Origin, but the EA rep confirmed that an Origin account will be needed to run the game.
An announcement trailer for SimCity was released earlier this month.
Does the requirement of an Internet connection dent your enthusiasm for the game?
