Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con to promote the forthcoming book to film adaptation Divergent, Ansel Elgort touched on getting ready for The Fault in Our Stars movie.
Notably, Elgort (who plays Augustus Waters) told MTV that he and Shailene Woodley (Hazel) will be doing some very real prep work.
“We’re going to visit some cancer hospitals and talk with kids and patients who’ve had the same things that our characters will have,” said the actor. “We’re probably going to go and meet with John Green in Indiana and see the Funky Bones and see the different places in the books. So it’s really exciting and the process is going to be great and we’re both so excited. It’s an amazing story and we’re privileged to be able to bring it to life.”
Actors and actresses frequently do on-location research like this so they can understand the role as completely as possible. Meeting Green and exploring locations with him should help everyone have a mutual understanding of the messages and feelings they want to convey.
Woodley and Elgort were cast earlier this year. They both just finished filming Divergent in Chicago as Tris and her brother Caleb.
Hypable attended Divergent’s fan panel last Thursday – check out what we learned from the stars! The event featured the very first footage from the movie. It opens in theaters this March.
The Fault in Our Stars movie begins shooting in late August and at least one report has indicated the film won’t hit theaters until 2015.
