Scream season 1, episode 6, “Betrayed,” just finished airing, and Audrey finds herself in a hell of a lot of trouble.
This week’s Scream starts off with Emma and Kieran after their hookup in the middle of a field. She then decides she wants to go to Brandon’s house to face her fears. Inside, they find a fresh daisy. When she can’t find Kieran, she gets a phone call and is attacked by the killer. But when she pulls off the mask, the person she sees is herself.
Noah did some digging and found out that Mr. Branson didn’t exist before coming to Lakewood. Both he and Audrey are hesitant to put the full blame on him, though, and start thinking about Nina’s part in all of this.
But maybe Noah should’ve been asking about Audrey’s role. Detective Brock calls Maggie into her (hopefully temporary) office to tell her she missed some evidence, which leads the cops to Mr. Branson’s office to ask Audrey some questions.
Brock asks Audrey about the video project she and Rachel had been working on. Brock doesn’t waste any time — on the night of Nina’s murder, Audrey was with Rachel. Who is now dead. Luckily, the sheriff saves her from answering because she’s a minor and needs a guardian present.
But the respite is only temporary. Once Audrey’s father shows up, Brock brings out the evidence. Audrey’s DNA is on the inside the mask they found in the hospital.
Audrey calls Emma to tell her to destroy an SD card that has video from the night of Nina’s death. Noah is all for it, but Emma has a moment of hesitation before agreeing, too. Emma and Noah break into Audrey’s house to get the SD card, just as the police make their way inside. It’s a close call, but they make it out of there unseen. Before they decide to destroy the SD card, Emma gets called in by Brock and has to lie about the break in.
Jake is not scoring any points in our books, as he confronts Will about his missing money and tells him if he doesn’t stop messing around, someone will find him in pieces in a ditch. What a lovely visual. It’s just the push Will needs to take his story to Piper.
Noah and Emma watch the SD card Audrey wanted them to destroy, and it shows a furious Audrey talking about getting revenge on Nina for what she did. Rachel is filming her, and pleading for Audrey to calm down and think about what she’s doing. But Audrey doesn’t want to hear any of it.
Maggie takes Emma to her family home, which is next door to Brandon James’ house. The two were friends when they were children. He knew Maggie and Emma’s father were having trouble, so he went to the dance to convince Maggie she could do better. Someone told Maggie’s boyfriend, and that’s when everything went crazy. Maggie just wanted to talk to him that night on the dock, but her father saw her and called the cops, who shot Brandon.
To this day, Maggie isn’t convinced Brandon was the monster everyone thought he was. She regrets not standing up for her friend, and doesn’t want Emma to have the same regret.
Emma goes to Detective Brock to tell her everything — that Audrey did want revenge, but she also didn’t hurt Nina. Emma stopped her that night, and she’s willing to testify that as the truth.
Audrey is released, and she and Emma talk outside the precinct. Rachel was the one that stopped Audrey that night, and Audrey keeps the tape to remind herself to never lose control again.
The Mayor goes back to the warehouse to meet Will, who gives him his money and the tape back. The Mayor is thinking about pulling a gun on him, but at the last second he decides not to and threatens him with becoming the next victim of the serial killer instead. Piper, who had been standing out of sight, emerges.
As Piper and Will make their way out, they find the door locked. Backtracking, they’re attacked by the killer, who stabs Will and knocks Piper to the ground. Instead of killing Will, the killer drags him away.
