A 56-page Microsoft document allegedly detailing the company’s plans for its next generation hardware was leaked on Scribd yesterday.
The document claims Microsoft’s next console will be named the Xbox 720 and will launch in 2013 for $299 alongside “Kinect V2.”
The Xbox 720 will reportedly feature Blu-Ray support, native 1080p output with full 3D support and games that will look “4-6 times” better than the current Xbox 360. Additionally, the console will include “always on” functionality as well as multitasking for apps.
The document states Microsoft will position the hardware as the “only box you need for premium living room entertainment” with background recording functionality for TV content and a unified Windows 8 foundation. Illustrations throughout show the 720 similar to a set-top box.
Improvements for Kinect V2 include higher accuracy, improved voice recognition, support for up to four players, improved RGB camera and dedicated hardware processing.
Beyond this, the document claims claims Microsoft is working on Augmented Reality glasses, named “Fortaleza.” There’s little mention of the hardware involved and we probably won’t see the project until post-console launch in 2014.
Keep in mind even if this document is legit, it does appear to be slightly old, dating back to at least late-2010. Nukezilla reported on some of the information in this document last month, as well.
The presentation has since been removed from Scribd.
If the document turns out to be real, what do you think of Microsoft’s push into next-gen consoles?
