Speaking with TV Line, Veronica Mars showrunner Rob Thomas is dropping some interesting new information concerning the now-greenlit movie version of his hit show.
The Veronica Mars movie got the green light from Warner Bros. following the successful funding of the project through Kickstarter. At the time of this writing, fans have been able to raise nearly $3.7 million (and growing) for the project.
So what can we look forward to seeing in the film? For one, you won’t find popular Veronica Mars ship LoVe (Logan and Veronica). Thomas says that Veronica will be dating someone at the start of the movie who is not Logan. He wouldn’t indicate if this new beau is a new or returning character.
The movie will take place ten years following the television series finale. Thomas went into detail explaining what the character has been up to over the past decade. “She transferred away from Hearst college after that freshman year and went up to Stanford and finished her undergraduate degree. And then she went to Columbia Law School,” he said. “She’s certainly been back to Neptune from time to time to see her dad and Mac and Wallace, but she hasn’t worked a PI case since the last one we all saw in the final episode of season 3. She ruined her dad’s chance for re-election and she decided that that path had caused too much chaos in her life. And so she hasn’t worked a PI case in nine years. And when we meet her, she’s sort of like where Tom Cruise was in the beginning of The Firm. She’s between having graduated and taken the bar and she’s interviewing at various law firms in New York.”
As you can tell, the script is all set for the Veronica Mars movie. Filming is expected to take place this summer, and the film will open in select theaters in the beginning of 2014.
