Legendary British actor Sir Roger Moore has passed away.

The BBC broke the story Tuesday morning that Roger Moore, seven-time James Bond actor, has died after “a short but brave battle with cancer.”

His family released the following statement on Twitter shortly after the news broke:

Moore was James Bond in the 1973–1985 era, his movies including Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only and The Spy Who Loved Me. He also starred in a number of television series including Ivanhoe and Maverick.

Roger Moore was a fantastic actor and one of the best incarnations of 007 to grace the screen. We’ll never forget his contributions to cinema.

RIP Roger Moore.
