Revenge season 4, episode 17 proved to viewers that David’s heart is in the right place, but can he be a father to Emily again?
In the beginning of last Sunday’s episode of Revenge, Emily was made guardian of baby Carl. When she had to run to the courthouse for Jack’s hearing, David stepped up to watch over him. It showed us David’s soft spot and he’s desperate to be a father again to his only daughter.
David tried on multiple occasions in the episode to convince Emily to leave her path for revenge behind. Although we do agree that Margaux needed to be stopped — and Jack’s name needed to be cleared.
Jack’s mother, (and Conrad’s ex-wife) Stevie, made an appearance to help get Jack out of jail. David bailed her out when she was held in contempt, repaying her for all she did to help his case back in the beginning. Stevie mentioned to him that they both were given second chances to be parents to their children. Although their children are now older, they still need them for guidance and just to be present in their lives.

It’s been many years since David and Emily have had a relationship. They’ve both been without each other — or anyone, really (don’t even bring up Aiden’s name) — since Emily’s grade school years. It would be hard for any father and daughter to just pick up where they left off.
Emily should embrace David with open arms and get to know him again. She’s wanted him in her life for so long, but is that truly possible? Maybe, if she’d just give it as much a shot as her father has!
On the other hand, David doesn’t really know who Emily is. He knows Amanda, and the very young Amanda at that. Since David has been locked up, kidnapped and forced to do work he didn’t want to do, Emily has gone through more than he’ll ever know.
Emily’s biological mother was in a mental facility, and with her dad in jail, she was put in the system. After that came her juvy days. That’s when she met Emily Thorne and switched identities.
That may have been one of the best decisions she’s made thus far. She made a (fake) name for herself. She joined Takeda’s revenge ninja school and became the badass she is now, with her best friend, Nolan, by her side for most of the ride.
While we understand that basing your entire existence on revenge may not be the healthiest thing for someone to do, it somehow works for her. Maybe her father just has to understand that this is what she’s become.
Or she should just retire from revenge (and everything) all together and enjoy living next door to her father on the beach! Sign us up!
