Have you been disappointed by the lack of screen time for Octavia Spencer on Red Band Society? Fear not – more Nurse Jackson is coming your way!
Last night, the second episode of Red Band Society aired on Fox. The episode focused mainly on Leo (Charlie Rowe) and Kara (Zoe Levin), delving into their fragile emotional states and exploring their illnesses.

Although we’re only two episodes in, we’re already feeling like this show will focus more on the kids than the adults. And while that’s great, considering the excellent cast the show has assembled, viewers who tuned in for Oscar winner Octavia Spencer might be left wanting.
But speaking to Zap2It, Dave Annable (Doctor McAndrew) promises that we’ll see a lot more of Nurse Jackson as the show progresses.
“Obviously you don’t want to waste an Oscar winner in Octavia Spencer,” he says, “so we’re going to follow [the adults]. We’re going to show a little bit more of their lives as well.”
He adds that, although Red Band Society centers around a hospital, going home with the doctors and nurses is, “something that’s really fun to explore, because these medical professionals and particularly the pediatricians that I’ve talked to all have their ways of dealing with the ups and downs of a profession like this.”
Actor Wilson Cruz (Nurse Gomez-Rejon) tells New Now Next that his character and Nurse Jackson share a lot of scenes in upcoming episodes.
“She’s hilarious,” he gushes. “She has every right to carry her Oscar everywhere, but she’s the last to do that. We hit it off right away.”
Although Cruz’ character has a heavy backstory of his own, his scenes with Spencer mostly serve as comic relief.
“Our characters have a history,” Cruz says. “It’s like the Olympics of sass between the two of us.”
Are you looking forward to seeing more of Nurse Jackson as the show moves forward?
Red Band Society season 1, episode 3, “Liar, Liar Pants on Fire,” airs next Wednesday at 9/8c on Fox.
