Pokémon: The Origin will be a mini TV series that will consist of the adventures of Red as he fights to become the Pokémon League Champion. Watch the gorgeous trailers for the special now!
A trailer for the four-part mini series Pokémon: The Origin was recently released on the Japanese Pokémon Company YouTube channel. In it, we see epic clips of Giovanni throwing a Poké Ball into battle, Red and Green fighting a wild Rattata, and Professor Oak sending out his Eevee.
One of the most shocking parts of this trailer is that Red is shown having out-of-battle dialogue. This is such a big deal, in that in the games, he never speaks to anyone, as is demonstrated by his “…” when you fight him on top of Mt. Silver.
On the one hand, we can understand why they’d choose to have Red speak. It’s only natural that they’d want their main character to have dialogue. This is a normal way for a story to be told, with silent protagonists usually having a The Little Mermaid explanation along with their muteness.
However, part of us can’t help but be upset that they’re changing his character for the benefit of the anime. He might not feel like the same character if he’s always speaking!
The original trailer for the Pokémon: The Origin anime can be viewed below. In it, we see Red and Green competing against each other, Red with his Charmander, and Green with his Squirtle. The gym battle against Brock is also showcased.
