Pokémon GO hosted a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday where Niantic head John Hanke spoke to the crowd about the success of the game and teased what’s ahead.
If you attended Comic-Con at any point this week, it was impossible to not see people playing the game. Every time you crossed a block, another player or two was tossing Pokeballs across their screen. In fact, San Diego’s Gaslamp District offered nonstop lures from Wednesday onward thanks to the plethora of GO players in town. Isn’t this the most beautiful sight you’ve ever seen?

Pokémon GO cosplay was also everywhere.
With all of this type for GO at the convention, it was wonderful to see the game hosting their own panel so soon after the app’s launch. Here’s what Hanke revealed at San Diego Comic-Con’s Pokémon GO panel on Sunday:
- The Eevee easter egg — in which you can control which Pokémon Eevee turns into — was confirmed by Hanke. (Name your Eevee Rainer, Sparky or Pyro to get a Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon). What’s more, Hanke said that “there might be a few other Easter Eggs in there that have yet to be discovered.”
- Trading is a feature that is coming to Pokémon GO, but right now the priority for Niantic is keeping the app’s servers from crashing. “Trading is not in Pokemon GO today, but it’s something we’re working on bringing to the product. Don’t get too excited – we need to make sure we can keep the servers up first!” he said.
- As for new Pokémon appearing in GO, Hanke confirmed more are on the way. “There are some rare ones that haven’t showed up yet that will be showing up. And there are some other ones in the universe, it’s something we’re excited about continuing with in the coming years.” And despite rumors, no legendary Pokémon appeared during the game’s panel. Hanke said that new Pokémon will be added once their worldwide rollout is complete.
- Pokestops will eventually be upgraded to offer more than a few items for you bag. In the future they will also serve as Pokémon Centers (aka hospitals) for your Pokémon. Other customizations for the Pokestops are also in the works.
- Speaking of additions, training is also in development, which should let you level up your Pokémon in new ways. It sounds like it’ll be coming sooner rather than later: “We don’t have an exact date [for the feature launch], but it’s at the top of our priority list,” Hanke said.
- There was also a bit of news: The three legendary birds — Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres — are “aligned” with Team Mystic, Instinct, and Valor. Hanke unveiled the names of the leaders of each team: Team Mystic is led by Blanche, Team Instinct is led by Spark, and Team Valor is led by Candela. More info is expected in the near future.
