Hype Special #22 – ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’

Hosted by Pamela, Selina, Michal

November 22, 2016

Harry Potter fans, rejoice! Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is officially in theaters! Now that we’ve all seen the film, the girls of Hype Podcast just couldn’t resist getting together to breakdown J.K. Rowling’s latest tale from the wizarding world!

Listen in as we take a deep dive into everyone and everything from Newt Scamander and everyone’s favorite No-Maj, Jacob, to Obscurials and Bowtruckles!

SHOW NOTES:
– Pam and Selina welcome Michal back to the show!
– We kick things off by talking about the vibes at each of our screenings
– Nifflers, Bowtruckles, and Mooncalves take center stage as we dote over all of our favorite beasts
– Selina reveals the moment that won her over with regards to Newt Scamander as a character
– Newt was friends with a Lestrange at school and we definitely did NOT see that one coming! The hosts theorize over what house Leta could have been in, whether or not we think she’ll be one of Grindelwald’s followers, and try and analyze what Queenie said about Leta being “a taker.”
– Creedence, Mary Lou, Modesty, and the Second Salemers take center stage as we dive deeper into our discussion.
– Michal makes a great connection between Rowling’s Lumos charity and the orphans we see in Fantastic Beasts.
– Will the real Graves please stand up? We talk about the plot twist that NONE OF US saw coming, and lament over the possibility that we’ll never see Colin Farrell come back as Graves
– Were we the only ones who felt like the relationship between Graves and Creedence was a bit creepy?
– We jump into a lengthy discussion about Obscurials and theorize over this new bit of magic Jo has introduced.
– Could Ariana Dumbledore have been the victim of an Obscurial? Is possible that Grindelwald could have been trying to harvest her suppressed energy to use it for his own gain?
– Are Tina and Queenie just reworked versions of Hermione and Luna?
– Jacob is the best, pass it on! But what did that knowing smile at the end really mean? Pam has a theory as to how he could have retained some of his memories, and the girls muse over what his role in the series could be going forward.
– We wrap things up by looking back on the movie as a whole: Was there anything we wish we could have seen more of? Where would we like to see the story go from here? Does Fantastic Beasts give us hope for the remaining four movies planned in the series?
– We cap the episode off by reading some of YOUR thoughts on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!
