Episode #52 – Mental Floss for Mythology

Hosted by Natalie Fisher, Karen Rought, Donya Abramo and Jen Smith

February 6, 2014

Karen and Natalie are joined by Jen and Donya to recap the happenings of Teen Wolf season 3, episode 17 “Silverfinger.”

Featured Song: “Seven” by APES

– Two special guests this week – team member Donya and Japan expert Jen!
– We explain the slight mishap of this week’s recording.
– Fave quotes as usual – a mix of very funny and very serious this week.
– We see young Chris Argent dealing with the yakuza and the demons. He is H-O-T.
– We discuss Gerard’s terrible parenting skills, and Gerard’s terrible existence. Donya has met the actor, Michael Hogan, and tells a story about this!
– Kira touches Scott’s werewolf face – she’s DEFINITELY a fangirl. Are there parallels with Allison here?
– Also, nice visual effects trick with the helmet there.
– Stiles tells Scott about what he suspects is going on with him and we once again are grateful that the people on this show actually communicate.
– Barely anyone’s at school today, Stiles takes himself out to go to the hospital, Allison and Isaac go off with Chris.
– Allisaac win prizes for escalating the blunt sexual awkwardness every single week. What a first kiss!
– Melissa sedates Stiles due to his lack of sleep. This is totally illegal, by the way. Also, have all the other kids not been out for three days in a row as well?
– Melissa compares Stiles’s symptoms to those of his late mother, Claudia. We’ve suspected she had a degenerative brain disease for a while.
– Donya’s actually found a horrible condition, Fatal Familial Insomnia, which seems to hit the proverbial nail on the head. We learn about this hereditary problem and it really seems to fit.
– Are the Stilinski symptoms a genuine medical issue, or a supernatural problem hiding itself?
– If Stiles is really dying, should Scott give him the bite?
– We wonder about what type of kitsune that Kira might be.
– One thing’s for sure – she’s not a Gryffindor Kitsune. Whether she’s protecting Scott or herself, she offers up some very Slytherin logic.
– We’ve got some alternate names for Agent McCall, and Jen is more concerned about the condition of Melissa’s carpets than the agent’s chest wound.
– What does he want to tell Scott? Is it the standard “I really love you, sonnyboy” or does he have a big secret?
– The twins bust in. Derek busts in. We appreciate one more than the other.
– Hint: the one we appreciate is Derek. He’s being soooooo awesome and hilarious and hey, did he actually win a fight?
– Karen accidentally makes a mean joke about this.
– Deaton’s new alarm system. Is Deaton actually doing a great job at helping Scott? We think he’s either incompetent or shady.
– We meet the “Silverfinger” Katashi – or Shang Tsung to Karen. We discuss the various merits and failings of the seminal 90s classic Mortal Kombat, which starred both this actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Linden Ashby. Karen hopes they hung out on the set of Teen Wolf.
– Katashi isn’t what we expected – he’s not a bad guy! – and he tells the Argents about the demons – oni – and their hunt for the nogitsune – a chaos/void spirit.
– Are the oni, by their very nature, evil, good, or something that transcends those concepts?
– We knew dark!Stiles was coming. It wasn’t a big reveal. But man, it still hit us so hard to see it! We wax lyrical over what Dylan can do and we’re scared about how this will turn out!
– We finish up with our Non Sequitur Section about cool stuff in our direct vicinity!
