Episode #132 – The Good, The Bad and The Place

Hosted by Selina Wilken, Marama Whyte

January 30, 2017

Hype Podcast 132 breaks down the Oscar nominations, talks about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The 100, The Good Place, Riverdale and Fantastic Beasts.

Selina and Marama are on hand to discuss this week’s news stories (we had to fire Pam cause she kept activating all your Siris ;)), which include the snubs and surprises of the 2017 Oscar nominations, a recommendation for Lion, a review of the Riverdale pilot and so much more.

How We Hype:
– Marama watched Lion, and read another astronaut book titled Spaceman: An Astronaut’s Unlikely Journey to Unlock the Secrets of the Universe.
– Selina is listening to the audiobook of Lauren Graham’s Talking as Fast as I Can, and has moved on from Fallout 4 to Skyrim!

News:
– Oscar nominations reactions: Taraji P. Henson and Amy Adams got snubbed! Why is Hacksaw Ridge nominated for Best Picture? Star Trek Beyond could be an Oscar winner! But A Monster Calls didn’t get anything?! So many feelings.
– Star Wars VIII is titled ‘The Last Jedi,’ but what does it mean?
– Marvel has finally released the official synopsis and casting list for Black Panther
– The Fantastic Beasts audiobook will be narrated by Eddie Redmayne, and we’ve got more info on the Blu-ray release date and special features
– #FollowTheSpiders: Harry Potter Studio Tour announces forest expansion!
– Actor John Hurt has passed away at 77
– We also lost Mary Tyler Moore this week
– Nina Dobrev is returning for the Vampire Diaries finale, which means Selina might, too
– ABC orders a politically slanted comedy pilot from Hamilton‘s Daveed Diggs
– The CW picks up a new drama pilot from The 100 showrunner Jason Rothenberg
– There’ll be more Veronica Mars, but when?
– Hamilton’s Schuyler sisters will be performing at the Super Bowl.

TV Show of the Week:
– Selina finally gets to talk about The Good Place finale!
– How does the Riverdale pilot land for someone with no knowledge of the Archie comics?
