Episode #111 – Several Stars Are Born

Hosted by Selina Wilken, Pam Gocobachi,

August 26, 2016

In Hype Podcast lucky-111, we talk Ghostbusters, Captain Marvel, Gambit, Rupert Grint and John Cho’s new shows, and more.

This week it’s Pam, Selina and Kristen battling late-night/early morning blues, but as always, fandom is here to cheer us up!

There’s lots of TV nostalgia this week as we’re all discovering old series (including Gilmore Girls, of course), and look ahead to some awesome new adaptations coming our way.

How We Hype:
– Selina has seen Ghostbusters at last. Three guesses what she thought of it?!
– Kristen is reading her first Michael Crichton book for Book Hype, and loving it
– Pam has a music review: Frank Ocean’s Blond.

News:
– We pick our favorite potential Captain Marvel director
– The Guardians of the Galaxy will be in Avengers: Infinity War
– Sam Mendes may direct James and the Giant Peach, which has Pam excited
– Doug Liman is switching teams, going from Marvel’s Gambit to DC’s Justice League Dark. Poor Gambit.
– The new La La Land gives the spotlight to Emma Stone
– Rupert Grint has a new TV series coming, again again! Will this one stick?
– Speaking of awesome people, John Cho is also set to star in a new series. But it’ll never be better than Selfie
– The studio behind Kubo is anti-sequels. Yay or nay?
A Little Life has been optioned for a miniseries
– Netflix is adapting Anne of Green Gables, and we all struggle to remember the story
– The first promo for Hairspray Live! reveals the cast.

TV Show of the Week:
– Kristen is taking Karen through The West Wing, and luckily for both of them, Karen likes it
– Selina has been sucked into Stars Hollow, and just got past the horrible breakup episode of season 5. Hold for a mini Gilmore Girls special…
– And we’re back with Pam, who’s jumping on the nostalgia train with Felicity.

We wrap up with Listener Feedback, which includes some corrections, a Merlin shoutout, and some more Harry Potter fanfic recommendations (keep them coming!).
